Top 5 Nude Lip Shades

Now, it’s only recently that I have started to wear, and actually enjoy a nude lip. Whether it be bright pinks or a dark purples I’ve always been more of a bold lip kinda gal. I have to admit it’s probably down to all the hype around the KJ lip trend that got me hooked with the ‘M.L.B.B’ shades/90s lip.

For someone who owns over 100 lipsticks, I’m gonna narrow this down to my favorite five nude shades. Some are more pink tones while others lean more toward brown. One thing I have to say is, I HAVE to wear a lip pencil of some sort with any nude-y colour, just so my lips have more definition and I’m not washed out with certain shades. A good lip liner can enhance a look massively and I’d always recommend using one with your lipsticks.

These are in no particular order; I found it difficult enough picking only 5, never mind ranking them! First up is a beauty from Tom Ford. When you hear that name, you know this is going to be something special. To me, Tom Ford can do no wrong. This is Pink Dusk, a light natural pink colour, it compliments my skin tone perfectly and it’s such an easy shade to wear. Like all TF lipsticks the formula is A-MAZING, creamy and moisturising but also lasts a good while on the lips. I will wear this with MAC’s Whirl lip pencil, using a light hand to apply the pencil, then reapply a little bit more over the lipstick to blend it all in. This lipstick costs £37, which is pretty steep, but I’ve found that Rimmel’s Kate Moss lipstick in Shade 03 is quite a good match!
Tom Ford - Pink Dusk

MAC’s Kinda Sexy was a lipstick that I hadn’t heard much about but I was looking for shades similar to Velvet Teddy, since that was always out of stock. Once this arrived I was pleasantly surprised. This is one nude shade I am able to wear without any lip pencil, although I still choose to do so. Once Velvet Teddy was in stock I ordered it straight away and couldn’t wait for it to arrive. Upon it arriving, I can now say that, Kinda Sexy is definitely more wearable for me due to there being more pink tones within it than Velvet Teddy. Of course with this being a matte formula it lasts forever!
MAC - Kinda Sexy

Next up we have Lime Crime’s Velvetine in Cashmere. There was loads of hype around this shade on the Internet; it’s the perfect greige shade. I waited ages for this to arrive from America but it was worth it. I can’t rember the exact price I paid but I think it may have been somewhere around the £15-£20 mark. As much as I love this shade and this formula in general, I wouldn’t order from Lime Crime again. (You can read up about all that on the Internet if you give it a quick search)

The formula is beautiful, though, not sticky at all and literally lasts all day for me. I will admit, when I first got this I was slightly disappointed as I found it didn’t really suite me much… That was until I started to apply a lip liner. Firstly I used a mega bargain brown-y shade liner from POUNDLAND (of all places), then I bought MAC’s Stone lip pencil and together these products create something magical! I get so many compliments when wearing this combination from people at work as well as people on beauty counters (Urban Decay/Benefit/Smashbox) I’m a little sad that I’m running low on Cashmere and need to find an alternative soon!
Lime Crime - Cashmere

Here’s Urban Decays lipstick in the shade Rush. I bought this unexpectedly whilst browsing the UD counter. This was my first UD lipstick and I was impressed at first swipe. It’s quite hydrating and very opaque, and they’re not uncomfortable to wear. I also bought the matching lip pencil, which I wear with this lipstick. I can’t say I’m the biggest UD lip pencil fan as I find them a bit smudgy, but I do only own this one shade and I will probably still try out more. Rush is pretty similar to Kinda Sexy, but not a matte formula and a little more pink/mauve in colour.
Urban Decay - Rush

Lastly, here is the cheapest one in my top 5; this definitely does not mean it’s my least favourite of the lot. This is Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte in the shade Don't Pink Of It!. I have found these to be the best liquid lipsticks available on the high street. As much as I love the formula of Velvetines, these are a little better, which is a surprise for an affordable product. They’re smooth and creamy to apply and not the slightest bit sticky and after around 30 seconds I literally forget it’s on my lips. Again, like the other liquid lipstick I mentioned, this last agggges. It’s a light natural pink/mauve colour and again, I wear this with either Whirl lip pencil or Rush.
Bourjois - Don't Pink Of It!

Anyone know any products similar to Lime Crimes Cashmere? I'm desperate for a replacement!

River Island Paris By Night EDT review

With notes of guava, sandalwood milk, praline and vanilla I knew this was my type of fragrance. As soon as I could, I headed to my nearest River Island store to investigate further. Let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed, in fact, I was mega impressed. At first spray, unlike a lot of lower priced perfumes, this didn’t have that typical hairspray/alcohol smell to it, it was simply divine. So, not only is the dry down simply amazing, from start to finish this is gorgeous.

I knew this reminded me of something but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. What was that smell? Then, it was in the car on the way home, I knew what it was… Armani Code. To me this is extremely similar, that sexy, rich, dreamy scent to it. I couldn’t believe I had found a dupe for one of my favorites (it’s definitely okay to have like, 10 favorites, right?).

River Island Paris By Night EDT 75ml - £12

Even the packaging isn’t a let down, it doesn’t look tacky or cheap, at all. The black bottle gives it that luxurious feel (Hello Tom Ford fragrances!). The box itself is even the same style as the TF Private Blend fragrances.

This is an absolute steal at £12 for 75ml, or £10 for 30ml. Definitely worth paying that £2 more for a much bigger bottle. Although this is an EDT, it still lasts fairly well, a good few hours, but for £12 you don’t mind having to top up a little bit more. I wore this for work today and received a lot of compliments. One of my coworkers even asked if I had that “tobacco perfume” on, meaning Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. With some similar notes, I can see where she’s coming from. You seriously need to give this fragrance a try!

What type of fragrances do you normally go for?

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow

As an avid beauty blog reader I had heard about Charlotte Tilbury a while ago but I just never seemed to want to actually try anything, I have no idea why though, because, have you seen the packaging? I’m a sucker for beautiful looking products.

It was only recently that I properly took a look at the Filmstar Bronze & Glow, at £49, I was a little apprehensive to click ‘submit’ once I had typed my card details in. After not even 3 minutes of thinking about whether I really needed this in my life, I had clicked the submit button. I knew within a couple of days I would have this beautiful product in my hands.
The day arrived and I couldn’t open the cardboard box quick enough. Literally, everything about this product is beautiful, even the deep red cardboard packaging. Just look at the photos!

Okay, so packaging was a top scorer for me, now down to the actual product, the highlighter and bronzer. WOW. Just wow. I knew it must have been pretty good, as I have read many people rave about it, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this good.
The bronzer, on the left is just the perfect shade for my pale skin and it certainly doesn’t come out orange-y. There’s a slight shimmer to it but honestly, I think this makes the product work well as it just gives you that healthy glow. I would usually go for a matte bronzer such a Benefit Hoola Bronzer but this has overtook that. I find it to be super blend-able and it doesn’t create any harsh lines.

Onto the highlighter, again, this seems to be the most perfect shade for me without being too much. I apply this to the top of my cheekbones and it just enhances my features and along with the bronzer, gives my face a hell of a lot more structure. I seriously can’t praise this product enough, sometimes when I use one of my other products for contouring I find that by the end of the day it can start to look a little ‘worn’ or even a tad streaky/patchy, not with this though! I can wear this literally all day and my face still has that glow at the end of this day.

What are you thoughts on this product?

Anyone know of any dupes?

Benefit Interview/Audition Experience

I’m just going to get straight into the whole process from applying online right through to the actual audition. It was my day off and as I hate my current job, I thought I would spend it applying for jobs, mainly jobs I actually want. As a lover of all things beauty I am dying to work on a beauty counter. I trawled through the massive list of jobs on the Benefit Careers page to find the ones closest to me. There was two, so obviously I applied for both.

The application was easy enough, just your usual online application with questions such as ‘Why do you want to work for Benefit?’ and ‘3 words your friends would use to describe you’. You also need to upload your CV and a photo is optional, which I chose to include. Once you’ve sent your application off, you get one of those automated emails thanking you for applying and saying, if you haven’t heard anything within 3 weeks they wont be taking your application further.

After a couple of weeks I had forgotten about the application all together. About a month and a half had now passed and I noticed I had a voicemail on my phone. As I was currently at work, I sneakily went to the toilet to listen. To my surprise, it was from Benefit, letting me know they’ve received my application and would like to discuss it further (or something along those lines). I was extremely surprised considering how long it had been and especially because they say, if you haven’t heard within 3 weeks, then you haven’t got it. I rang the number straight back expecting the lady on the other end of the phone to just give me a date and time for an interview/audition. Nope, this was a telephone interview! When she first told me, I panicked, considering I’m hiding in the toilet at work expecting this call to take no more than 3 minutes.

The good news is, the phone interview lasted no more than 5 minutes and it was basically the same questions as the online application. I had thought I screwed it up due to being under pressure and not preparing for this in any way but nope, she had congratulated me of successfully passing the telephone interview stage and that she would like to invite me to an interview with the area manager. She gave me all the details of where and when and what to wear. The last thing she told me was that it would take no longer than half an hour.

I skipped through the rest of my shift with a massive smile on my face and as soon as I finished I came home and done my research on a - Benefit Cosmetics Interview. Everything was coming up pretty similar to what I had already been through, but every blog I read mentions the Audition after the phone interview and that this lasts all day. I was confused because I was told it would last a maximum, 30 minutes.

The day came; I had managed to swap my shift at work and was on my way to the Metro Centre. My interview was a 10.10am in Starbucks next to Debenhams. I spent around 30 minutes wandering around the Metro Centre and every girl I passed that was dressed all in black, I assumed they were there for the same reason. A quick toilet stop before heading off to Starbucks, I noticed one of my eyebrows wasn’t playing game. This stressed me out, but there was nothing I could do, as I didn’t have the right products with me. A quick hair change from down to up and I was on my way.
Thankfully Starbucks was pretty dead and to the left I spotted a lady sat with a laptop. I introduced myself and took a seat. Amy, the area manager was lovely and put me to ease (especially after what I had read online about other peoples horror stories) Again, it was pretty much the same questions as the application, but then it went more into; when have you worked as part of a team, have you had to work towards targets, how do you deal with an angry customer? To be honest it felt more like a chat than an actual interview. She complimented my eyebrows, which made me laugh, and I had to tell her my toilet disaster and how I thought the right one was horrific. She also asked if I had done my own makeup, and was really complementary about it. After about ten minutes she had congratulated me and told me I am through to the Audition process. She checked I was wearing the right footwear and told me to be at the Benefit counter in Debenhams for 1 o’clock.  Of course I was over the moon, but a part of me was slightly annoyed I had to find time to kill nearly 3 hours.

Eventually 1 o’clock came and I headed straight to the counter, I was expecting there to be around 6 of us there for the audition but there was just myself and two other girls. We sat at the counter for around 10 minutes before the Area Manager came. (This is where my experience is different to what I had read online, also) Amy explained what we were going to do, she done a quick run through of quite a lot of their products and explained about the hygiene part. She then pretty much just told us to get on with it. I was confused, as I had read on every other blog that the candidates done demonstrations on each other first as well as role plays along with being told EXACTLY what you HAD to say to the customers. We weren’t told what to say, which I found to be a bit better as you don’t feel so restricted. Basically what we had to do was get as many people sat down and give them the Benefit experience, but not to spend too much time with one person.

The three of us were walking around a pretty dead Debenhams trying to get as many people sat down as possible and yes, it is a little embarrassing at first and especially when someone says they’ve already been asked twice, but, there are people out there who are happy to listen to you and come over to the counter. I managed to get 5 people sat down within an hour and a half and one person bought something. It was around the same for the other 2 girls too. The last half hour we were just told to stay at the counter, so we decided to try the products on each other and just have a play around. It was here where the three of us got talking and got to find out a little more about each other.

Throughout our time of trying to get people to the counter, Amy, the Area Manager was watching us and scoring us on whatever the criteria was. Eventually she arrived back at the counter, asked us how we felt about it and congratulated us on getting this far. She then said we would hear back by the end of next week. We collected our bags and off we went. I had swapped numbers with one of the girls so that we could let the other know when we hear something.

I had my interview/audition on the Thursday and I had received an email the following Tuesday telling me I had not been successful. The other girl just heard nothing back at all which I thought was strange. Not gonna lie, I was gutted I didn’t get the job. I would like to know why but I have a feeling it could be to do with, I wasn't that confident in applying makeup onto other people, but I assumed this would come with practice, once you have the job.

Has anyone else been through the audition process? How was it for you?

Tom Ford Perfume Collection

Is it a collection? Can I really call 5 perfumes a ‘collection’? Well, yes, I am. There may only be 5 at the minute but I’m definitely going to be expanding as soon as I can. For someone who is a lover of heady, spicy, masculine scents, As soon as I read about TF fragrances, I just knew they were for me and I marched down to my nearest counter as soon as I could.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous each and every bottle is? There’s something wonderful about picking up one of these and spritzing yourself before heading out the door. They just ooze luxury.

My love affair will Tom Ford fragrances started back in 2010, I was home from uni for the summer and kept seeing people vlog/blog about this one scent, in a wonderful all black bottle. Reading up on the notes, I knew this would be right up my street.
Black Orchid is the little beauty I’m talking about. Once at the counter in Fenwick, I sprayed it on myself and I was definitely expecting me to throw my bankcard to the girl behind the counter as soon as possible, but this was not the case. I was disappointed; this was supposed to be my Holy Grail. I headed off without the perfume, majorly disappointed and carried on my day shopping. Every so often I got a whiff of something unusual. It wasn’t bad it was interesting. Long story short; the more I could smell this perfume the more in love with it I became. I went straight back to the TF counter and made my purchase.
It’s not even like I hate the first initial spray, I’m actually in love with every single part of this perfume, I think the reason I wasn’t sure at first was because I had never smelt anything like that before. I’m happy to say it is now definitely my Holy Grail and I’m never without a bottle in my perfume collection (which is currently at 50+ perfumes and stupidly growing)
Tom Ford Black Orchid EDP 30ml
The second fragrance I purchased was one I had been lusting over ever since I tried it out on the counter, the day I bought Black Orchid and is probably the one I get the most compliments off. This is Tobacco Vanille from the Private Blend Collection. It’s an absolutely gorgeous fragrance and a one I would say is much more wearable for a lot more people than Black Orchid. Of course at £150 for 50ml, this little baby isn’t cheap and I do try and just keep it for special occasions but I have been guilty of wearing this for work.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille EDP 50ml

Next up is Violet Blonde, I had no intentions of buying this. It certainly wasn’t one I found myself reaching for whenever I passed the counter, but one day I decided to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised, it was, what I would call a fresh take on the typical TF fragrance. It’s definitely more feminine that the others and has a powdery smell to it. - Don’t let that put you off! As much as I love this scent, it’s one that I sometimes find myself forgetting about, but when I do go back to it I am reminded just how wonderful it is.
Tom Ford Violet Blonde EDP 30ml

Here we have another from the Private Blend collection in a hefty 100ml bottle! Noir de Noir is simply gorgeous. To me, it is a mix of Black Orchid and Tobacco Vanille. This perfume, like all TF perfumes, packs a punch! I love wearing this when the weather is colder, but again, I’m not one that just wears a certain perfume at specific times of the year.
Tom Ford Noir De Noir EDP 100ml

Finally, my most recent purchase was Velvet Orchid. How could I not like this? I knew it was going to be similar to Black Orchid, therefore I was gonna love it and needed it in my collection. The bottle is exactly the same to the Black Orchid bottle but in a dark purple bottle instead of the black/brown Black Orchid bottle. This is like the younger sister to Black Orchid, it’s definitely a lot sweeter, but you can still tell it’s a TF fragrance, sometimes people even ask me if I’m wearing Black Orchid when I wear this because the dry down is pretty similar, just a bit more sweet and powdery.
Tom Ford Velvet Orchid EDP 100ml

I’m not going to go too much into the notes of each perfume, if you’d be interested in separate reviews for each one the just let me know!

Can anyone recommend which one I should try out next?
Do you own any Tom Ford fragrances?
